Two Jamaat-Shibir men were slain in a gunbattle with police on Bypass Road near Bhutiargati area early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified to be Jahurul Haque, who is ameer of Jhenaidah local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami and Tarik Hasan Sabuj, advisor of Dhaka Metropolitan (West) unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Azbahar Ali Sheikh, the additional superintendent of Jhenidah police, informs a patrol team tried to stop three motorcycles on the road around 4:00 am following their suspicious movement.
The police confronted bike riders, who shot and hurled crude bombs towards police, prompting the police to retaliate which triggered a gunfight.
Two criminals were arrested with bullet injuries, and others managed to flee away.
Later the injured duo was sped to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Three police constables- Bulbul Ahmed, Alamgir Hossain, and Nasim- were also injured in the incident.
Police also recovered 2 shooter guns, 2 rounds of bullets and 5 crude bombs from the spot.
