It is near certain that Mesut Ozil and Arsenal will agree on a new deal; however, serious doubts remain over Alexis Sanchez
Both contracts expires in 2018, and The Gunners have been holding serious talks for extending the deal and come up with a new long-term contract.
ESPN FC is reporting that negotiations with Ozil are progressing positively, as the player has settled down in North London. However, there are sticking points over Sanchez’s negotiations, with the player demanding a buy-out clause along with a big pay raise.
As the two have less than two years left on their contracts, Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger wants a new deal before the season is over.
For a club-record fee of £42.5 million, Ozil joined Arsenal in 2013. He quickly became a crowd favorite and topped the assists chart with 19 last season. Sanchez, who is more arrogant of the two compares his abilities to that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He has scored only 13 goals in 30 appearances. Even though he has extended his working visa by two-and-half years, it can’t be taken as a certainty that he will be staying with Arsenal. On a positive note, he has taken to London lifestyle well and enjoyed his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsene Wenger reassured the fans that there is an extended period left on contract negotiations to be sorted out and there is no reason to worry just yet.
It’s worth pointing out that Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott will also see their contracts expire in 2018, but Arsene Wenger is taking a wait and see approach with them. He is certainly in no rush with these players, given that latest financial disclosure has revealed healthy £159m in cash reserves, which means they should be able to compete with the biggest clubs in Europe.
